Banana Cat
Internet 2023 · TikTok / YouTube meme (Sad Banana Cat)
Wildly, comically emotional, a cat in a banana suit ready to dissolve into tears at any moment.
Short summary: Banana Cat is a viral character built from clips of a cat wearing a yellow banana costume, defined by its habit of bursting into dramatic tears at the slightest provocation. Compilations of the costumed crying cat circulated from around 2021, but the character broke out broadly in 2023 across TikTok and YouTube, where its big teary eyes became shorthand for exaggerated sadness. Banana Cat soon anchored a whole ecosystem of fan art, 3D animations, and spin-off fruit-costumed cat characters, often cast in melodramatic little story videos. It is a clear example of a modern meme cat whose appeal comes from a single, instantly readable emotion taken to a comic extreme.
