By using the iCatNames website or Cat Names Expert iOS app, you agree to these terms. The services are naming and research aids, not veterinary, legal, or professional advice.
Name information and rankings
Meanings, origins, pronunciations, collection memberships, rankings, and sound-recall scores are provided for inspiration and research. Sources and scopes vary, language changes over time, and records may contain errors. A sound score is a transparent naming heuristic, not a promise about a cat's behavior or response.
Public dataset, quotations, and embeds
You may download the public CSV, quote reasonable portions of our editorial work, and embed the official mini generator for lawful personal, educational, shelter, foster, journalistic, or commercial publishing use when visible iCatNames attribution and links remain intact. You may not republish substantially the entire directory as a competing name database, remove embed attribution, misrepresent iCatNames data as your own research, or imply that unsupported volume or trend claims came from us.
Shared shortlists and user-entered text
You are responsible for list titles and optional cat descriptions you publish under a shared link. Do not enter private information about another person, illegal content, harassment, advertising spam, or content that infringes rights. Anyone with the public token can view and vote on the list. Keep the separate edit key private. We may remove abusive, automated, insecure, or abandoned content; normal shared lists expire after 180 days.
Weekly digest
The digest is optional and requires an explicit subscription. You may unsubscribe at any time. Delivery timing is not guaranteed, and we may change or discontinue the digest.
Acceptable use
Do not disrupt the service, probe or bypass access controls, automate excessive requests, manipulate votes, upload malicious material, scrape in a way that harms site availability, or use the service unlawfully. Ordinary browsing, saving, sharing, printing, credited citation, and supported embedding are welcome.
Cat Names Expert iOS app
The app is licensed—not sold—for personal, non-commercial use on devices you own or control, consistent with Apple's terms. You may not reverse engineer or redistribute the bundled app database except where applicable law expressly permits it. Personal favorites, notes, and sharing individual names are allowed.
No warranty and limitation of liability
The website, app, data, polls, downloads, and emails are provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties to the maximum extent permitted by law. To that extent, iCatNames is not liable for indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or exemplary loss arising from use of or inability to use the services.
Changes, termination, and contact
We may update, limit, or discontinue features and may revise these terms with a new update date. You can stop using the website at any time, clear browser data, delete the iOS app, remove a shared list with its edit key, or unsubscribe from email.
