Our Philosophy
A cat's name is something they'll carry for their whole life — and indoor cats routinely live 15 to 20 years. You'll call that name at feeding time, at the vet, when they've knocked something off the counter at 3 a.m., and in a thousand quiet moments in between. You'll say it tens of thousands of times. Picking the right one is a small but meaningful part of welcoming a cat into your home, and it shouldn't feel overwhelming — it should feel like part of the fun of bringing them home.
We keep the site ad-supported and free to use. We don't require accounts. We don't sell your data. We just want to be the best place on the internet to find a cat name you and your cat will still love fifteen years from now.

A Bit of History
iCatNames has been a labor of love. The site grew out of a belief that cat-name resources online were either shallow listicles ("Top 10 Cat Names of 2024!") or cluttered with popups — and that cat owners deserved a calmer, more thoughtful place to research names, including their meanings and cultural roots. We're a small, independent operation — not a corporate publisher.
Feedback, Corrections, Suggestions
We rely on readers — especially cat owners with deep knowledge of their own cultural and linguistic traditions, or of specific breeds — to catch errors and suggest additions. If you spot a wrong meaning, a questionable origin, a pronunciation that's off, or a name that should be in a collection, please tell us. We read every message and update the database regularly.
