OwlKitty

Internet 2019 · YouTube / TikTok — OwlKitty channel (2019–present)

House cat whose video work is the product of frame-by-frame After Effects compositing into film footage.

Tibo Charroppin, a French expatriate visual-effects compositor based in Portland, Oregon, and his partner Olivia Boone began the OwlKitty YouTube channel in 2019 using their black domestic shorthair Lizzy as the on-camera subject. The production method is a strict workflow: Charroppin films Lizzy's reference movement against a green-screen wall in the couple's apartment, then rotoscopes and composites the matte into source footage from feature films, using Adobe After Effects for the keying pass and Cinema 4D for occasional plate reconstruction. Each three-minute video reportedly takes approximately one to two weeks of post-production. The breakout video, a recreation of the velociraptor kitchen sequence from Jurassic Park with Lizzy replacing the raptors, was uploaded in October 2019 and crossed approximately ten million views within the first month. Subsequent videos have inserted Lizzy into the bow scene from Titanic, the dance sequences from La La Land, the dinosaur reveal from Jurassic World, the chess scene from The Queen's Gambit, Marvel Cinematic Universe trailer cuts, the Lord of the Rings Battle of Helm's Deep, and a long catalogue of cinematic set-pieces; the channel had reached approximately one million subscribers across YouTube and approximately 800,000 on TikTok by the mid-2020s. Coverage in Variety, the Hollywood Reporter, IndieWire, and Wired has cited the channel as an unusually rigorous example of solo VFX comedy, with Charroppin's pre-OwlKitty career including credits on commercial visual effects shoots in France and the United States. Lizzy is a rescue from a Portland shelter, acquired in 2018, and the production runs around her natural daily rhythms rather than scheduled shoots. Charroppin has discussed in interviews that the bulk of green-screen footage captures Lizzy moving freely, with the compositing pass selecting frames that match source-movie blocking. The channel has run partnership integrations with NordVPN, ExpressVPN, and Squarespace, and Charroppin sells reference prints through an associated storefront. A 2024 partnership with Universal Pictures produced an official OwlKitty-branded trailer recut for the studio's anniversary press cycle, the first formal studio collaboration the channel has accepted.
