Beerus
Tv 2013 · Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods (Toei Animation)
Purple-furred Egyptian-styled cat-deity who outranks every other character in the Dragon Ball franchise — and naps through most of the universe's history.
Beerus debuted in the 2013 theatrical film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods as the franchise's reigning God of Destruction for Universe 7, designed by Toriyama with body proportions referencing Egyptian sculpture and a face based on Toriyama's own real cat. Within Dragon Ball's power hierarchy he sits above Goku, Vegeta, and the Z Fighters who anchored the original 1986–1996 series — a deliberate reset of the franchise's ceiling for the Super continuation that followed. Voiced in Japanese by Kōichi Yamadera, Beerus has appeared in every Dragon Ball Super arc, the 2018 sequel film Dragon Ball Super: Broly, and the 2022 sequel Super Hero. He is structurally important less as a villain than as a god who can be irritated.
