Big
Game 1999 · Sonic Adventure (Sega)
Lazy, kind-hearted purple cat whose entire game-arc is based on going fishing for his pet frog.
Big the Cat first appeared in Sega's Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast in December 1998 (Japan) / September 1999 (international). His scenario in that game is structurally unique among Sonic-franchise characters: rather than running fast or fighting, Big's entire campaign consists of fishing for his missing pet frog Froggy. The fishing minigame uses the Dreamcast controller's analogue stick to cast and reel, and was widely treated by reviewers as either a welcome change of pace or the worst part of the game. Big has continued as a recurring secondary character through the entire Sonic franchise, including Sonic Heroes (2003), Sonic Free Riders (2010), and Sonic Frontiers (2022).
