Church
Book 1983 · Pet Sematary (Stephen King)
The Creed family cat whose return from the dead initiates the novel's tragedy.
Winston Churchill — Church for short — is the cat of the Creed family in Stephen King's 1983 horror novel Pet Sematary. After being run over by a truck, Church is buried by the father, Louis, in a Micmac burial ground beyond the local pet cemetery; he returns the next day, alive but altered — smelly, vicious, and clearly wrong. Church's resurrection is the inciting test that leads Louis to repeat the procedure with his dead toddler Gage, with worse consequences. Three Maine Coons played Church in the 1989 film adaptation; the 2019 remake used a single black Maine Coon named Leo.
