Born 4 April 2012 in Morristown, Arizona, Tardar Sauce — Grumpy Cat — owed her permanent scowl to feline dwarfism and an underbite, not to any actual mood. Her brother Bryan submitted the first photo to Reddit on 22 September 2012; it crossed 1 million views the same week. By 2014 her image had appeared on a Friskies endorsement, a Lifetime Christmas movie ("Grumpy Cat's Worst Christmas Ever"), a Madame Tussauds wax figure, and 51 licensed merchandise lines. The accumulated value of the licensing operation, run by owner Tabatha Bundesen, has been a matter of public dispute. Grumpy Cat died on 14 May 2019 at age seven from a urinary tract infection.
